WeGO Secretary General meets with WFUNA counterpart
February 12, 2019
SEOUL – WeGO’s Secretary General had a bilateral meeting with his counterpart at the World Federation of United Nations Association (WFUNA) this morning, to discuss current and future collaboration between the two organizations.
Meeting at WeGO’s Secretariat in Seoul, Secretary Generals Kyong-yul Lee and Bonian Golmohammadi shared their organizations’ respective activities and goals for the year and beyond. A topic of focus included their jointly organized Citypreneurs initiative, a startup competition for solving urban challenges related to the SDGs.
WeGO’s partnership with WFUNA initiated with WeGO’s co-hosting of the program in 2017. Along with other Seoul-based UN entities, WeGO awarded a cash prize to one of the winning startups. This year, WeGO and other co-organizers will explore the possibility of involving WeGO’s corporate members in the program.
Secretary General Lee presented his vision of reaching 1,000 members in the next few years to become “the UN of smart cities,” to which WFUNA offered to provide its assistance. The heads also shared their objectives in working to engage with North Korea.
WeGO invited WFUNA to its upcoming briefing session on its activities for the coming year for locally based partners in Seoul in March. WFUNA also took the opportunity to encourage WeGO to take part in the UN’s High-Level Political Forum in New York in July.
