WeGO Welcomes City of Granada, Lays Groundwork for Cooperation on Smart City Innovation and AI

[Seoul, July 9, 2026] – WeGO had the pleasure of welcoming the visit of H.E. Ms. Marifrán Carazo Villalonga, Mayor of the City of Granada (Spain), and Mr. Enrique Catalina, Second Deputy Mayor and City Councillor for Urban Planning, Public Works, and Licensing, accompanied by a high-level delegation from the City of Granada.

Following an opening round of introductions and welcoming remarks from Secretary General Kim and Mayor Carazo, WeGO presented an overview of its mission and flagship initiatives, including the Seoul Smart City Prize, the WeGO Champions Program, and the upcoming 7th WeGO General Assembly.
Mayor Carazo introduced Granada’s key industries and outlined the city’s smart city vision, centered on artificial intelligence and the digitalization of public administration, with particular attention to training and academic opportunities for students in AI-related fields. Through Granada’s prospect election as European Capital of Culture 2031, the city aims to position itself as an international hub extending its reach beyond the European Union with the support of WeGO’s global network. Both sides expressed strong interest in deepening cooperation, identifying several promising areas for future collaboration through future programs and events scheduled in the upcoming years.

This meeting marks a promising step toward strengthening ties between WeGO and the City of Granada. WeGO looks forward to welcoming Granada in joining the WeGO network. Both parties look forward to continuing the dialogue and exploring concrete opportunities for collaboration in the fields of smart city development, AI-driven public administration, and international cultural exchange.
