WeGO Strengthens Strategic Ties in China

[Beijing, Guangzhou, March 14–20, 2026] The World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization (WeGO), represented by the Secretary General Mr. Jeong-kee Kim and Program Manager Mr. Lii Inn Tan, successfully concluded an essential mission to China from 14th to 20th March 2026 by visiting both Beijing and Guangzhou to further enhance its strategic engagement with cities and partners in China. 

The WeGO delegation successfully conducted a series of bilateral meetings with various crucial counterparts, including but not limited to, H. E. Shi Zhongjun (Secretary General of ASEAN-China Centre), Mr. Mindao Yuan (Vice President of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries), Dr. Xiaodong Lee (Founder and CEO of Fuxi Institution), Mr. Wei Liu (Secretary of the Chaoyang District Commission of Science and Technology of Beijing Municipality), Ms. Ya Li (Secretary General of the Future Science Prize), Mr. Shuli Bi (Assistant Director-General of World Green Design Organization), Ms. Jieying Nie (Mayor of Chaoyang District People’s Government of Beijing Municipality), Professor Dr. Qingguo Jia (Director of the Institute for Global Cooperation and Understanding in Peking University), Mr, Kevin Zhang (City Planner at the Archicity), and Mr. Shuibin Xie (Deputy Director General at the Foreign Affairs Office of the Guangzhou Municipal People’s Government). 

Activities and initiatives of WeGO were promoted along with the Seoul Smart City Prize and the Seoul Smart Life Week throughout the meetings in Beijing and Guangzhou. In addition, it is worth noting that the WeGO Delegation paid courtesy visits to the Headquarters of International Science and Technology Organizations which is located in Chaoyang District in Beijing and to the Guangzhou Smart City Operation Center. The courtesy visits allowed the WeGO delegation to further practically learn more about the initiatives introduced and launched locally, providing precious opportunities for the WeGO delegation to exchange views related to the smart and sustainable development in China. The WeGO’s mission in both Beijing and Guangzhou showed that WeGO is committed to enhancing ties with China and fostering international partnerships in the field of smart city development.

WeGO was founded by 50 member cities in 2010 as the World e-Governments Organization, hence our acronym.
