[Singapore, April 21, 2026] – The World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization (WeGO) participated in the International Standard Organization/International Electrotechnical Commission Joint Technical Committee 1/Subcommittee 42 (ISO/IEC JTC1 SC42) Artificial Intelligence Committee Meeting held in Singapore, taking part in discussions on the future direction of international AI standardization and governance.
The plenary meeting brought together global experts, government representatives, and industry leaders to discuss standards and frameworks related to artificial intelligence and their implementation across sectors.
These AI committee sessions addressed core topics in AI, including Foundational Standards, Data, Trustworthiness, Use cases and applications, Computational methods and characteristics, AI enabled health informatics, Functional safety, Natural language processing, Conformity assessment schemes for AI systems, AI and Financial services, AI and Sustainability.
Through its participation, WeGO explored opportunities to strengthen international cooperation and established new partners within the ISO/IEC network to support future collaboration in smart city and AI-related standardization initiatives.
As part of its ongoing efforts to promote human-centric and sustainable smart city development, WeGO is paving the way toward initiating the standardization process for smart city projects submitted through the Seoul Smart City Prize in collaboration with Professor Young-im Cho, who represented as the Head of Delegation for the National Body of the Republic of Korea, and who also serves as the WeGO Advisory Member and Steering Committee Member of the Seoul Smart City Prize. By identifying international best practices and engaging directly with key standardization stakeholders, WeGO aims to contribute to the development of more transparent, scalable, and internationally recognized evaluation frameworks for smart city innovation.
During the visit to Singapore, WeGO also met with David Ho, Director of the Centre for Liveable Cities. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the upcoming World Cities Summit in June as well as potential areas for future collaboration. Discussions highlighted the importance of international partnerships and knowledge-sharing between the two organizations for more opportunities to be provided to WeGO members and partners.
Through continued engagement with leading international organizations, standards bodies, and urban innovation experts, WeGO remains committed to strengthening its role as a global platform for smart sustainable city cooperation and innovation.
