[Seoul, October 28, 2026] – The World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization (WeGO) convened its 2026 Executive Committee Meeting (EXCOM) online on October 28, hosted by the São Paulo Municipality. The meeting took place ahead of the 7th WeGO General Assembly, to be held in São Paulo, Brazil, on November 26-27, 2026.
The WeGO Executive Committee Meeting (EXCOM) is a yearly mandated gathering of Executive Committee members. Its purpose is to assess the Secretariat’s performance and achievements over the past year and to decide on the key agenda items that will guide the organization’s future direction. The meeting provided a platform for discussions and decision-making on the future activities of WeGO in preparation for the upcoming 7th WeGO General Assembly.
The meeting brought together the EXCOM members Abu Dhabi, Abuja, Almaty, Chengdu, Cuenca, Hebron, Makati City, Maputo, São Paulo, Seberang Perai, Wellington, and was chaired by Mr. Youngjun Chung, Director-General of the Digital City Bureau at the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
The session commenced with video welcome remarks from the Mayor of Seoul, President City of WeGO, followed by remarks from the Host City, represented by the Municipal Secretary of International Relations of São Paulo. EXCOM Members then deliberated on ten official agenda items, including the 2025-2026 Secretariat Annual Report, membership updates, the 2026 financial report, and proposed amendments to the WeGO Statutes. Regional Office representatives presented their work as part of the annual assessment, and the opening of new Regional Offices was introduced to the committee.
The EXCOM Meeting was delighted to approve seven new members to the WeGO community, and warmly welcomed Busan, Kocaeli, Madrid and Manama, along with SACOMA Global Foods Innovation, São Paulo Innovation District and the International Chamber of Commerce – Iraq (ICC Iraq).
Beyond its decision-making role, this year’s EXCOM aimed to strengthen relationships with member cities and re-engage existing members and partners in WeGO’s activities.
This EXCOM Meeting took place four weeks before the 7th WeGO General Assembly, themed “Smart Cities for People: Building Peaceful and Inclusive Urban Futures.” The triennial event will bring together mayors, senior officials, and representatives of WeGO members and partners to shape the organization’s strategic agenda for the coming years. It will feature the official General Assembly Session, a Mayors’ Meeting, Smart City Index sessions, thematic and parallel panel discussions, and technical and cultural visits.
