WeGO swaps membership with FIWARE Foundation
August 21, 2019
BANGKOK – WeGO formalized its partnership with European non-profit organization FIWARE Foundation today in Bangkok, with a mutual exchange of membership and an MOU.
WeGO Secretary General Kyong-yul Lee met with FIWARE Foundation CEO Ulrich Ahle in advance of the ASEAN Smart Cities Network (ASCN) Annual Meeting and exchanged applications for membership in each other’s organizations along with an agreement laying out the direction of their cooperation. As mutual members, WeGO and the FIWARE Foundation will jointly carry out knowledge-sharing and matchmaking activities among and in the interest of their respective networks.
Founded in 2016 by European multinational corporations ATOS Engineering, Orange, and Telefonica, FIWARE Foundation works to develop an open sustainable ecosystem around public, royalty-free, and implementation-driven software platform standards and open source technology, to aid in the future creation of smart applications in diverse sectors.
WeGO worked with the foundation earlier this year to co-organize a workshop on open governance and innovation in smart cities at the StartmeupHK Festival in Hong Kong. CEO Ahle also took part in the Smart City Roundtable hosted last month by WeGO in partnership with Washington DC.
Now a WeGO friendship member, the FIWARE Foundation is looking at ways to involve WeGO in its activities, including its Global Summit to be held on October 23-24 in Berlin.
