WeGO supports Kampala at smart city event in Seoul
October 2, 2019
SEOUL – WeGO supported a visit by Kampala’s Executive Director to Seoul for this year’s Seoul Smart City Summit & Conference.
Co-organized with Seoul Metropolitan Government, the annual event featured a roundtable hosted by the Vice Mayor of Seoul, where 10+ international city leaders, 10+ CEOs of global IT corporations, and 20+ investors shared their visions, challenges, and innovative solutions for smart sustainable cities.
At the roundtable, WeGO’s Secretary General commented on the three most important factors needed when considering the building of smart cities – technology, PPP, and citizen-centricity – and gave an introduction to his organization. Kampala’s Executive Director then briefly explained the city’s current strategy and efforts to improve itself, notably through its membership with WeGO.
This year, Kampala is one of the beneficiaries of WeGO’s Feasibility Study Program for the implementation of a smart parking system, along with Bharatpur, carried out by solution provider and WeGO member SRPOST. The final report of the study is slated for January 2020, to be followed by a pilot project to take place for the term of one year.
While in Seoul, Kampala also conducted one-on-one meetings with Korean and international stakeholders, in search of potential partners for the city’s other smart city plans and upcoming projects.
