WeGO meets with Dominican officials in Seoul
May 23, 2019
SEOUL – WeGO met with officials from the Dominican Republic and its capital Santo Domingo today in Seoul, in advance of a series of missions planned in Latin America in July.
Santo Domingo’s director for urban planning is in Seoul to develop an action plan for the 45% of its urbanized areas without a clear development plan, in consultation with the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements (KRIHS). The action plan includes such initiatives as an “Information Participation Platform,” for which the director welcomed later input from WeGO.
WeGO took the opportunity to invite officials from the Dominican capital to the coming Smart City Expo LATAM Congress in Puebla, Mexico, which it is preparing for as a supporting organization. It also extended an invitation to arrange a meeting between the city’s mayor and Secretary General Kyong-yul Lee on the sidelines of the World Cities Summit in Medellin, Colombia.
Santo Domingo is not a member of WeGO but has expressed interest as a possible beneficiary of funding toward feasibility studies and pilot projects related to the city’s action plan. The annually run F/S is available exclusively to members.
WeGO expects to continue its dialogue with Santo Domingo, supporting its aim to become compact, sustainable, equal, resilient, entrepreneurial, and civil.
