WeGO Attended the World Cities Summit 2026 in Singapore
[Singapore, 14-16 June 2026] – As the Strategic Partner of the World Cities Summit 2026, the WeGO Secretariat, represented by Mr. Jeong-kee Kim (Secretary General), Ms. Eunbyul Elena Cho (Program Director), and Mr. Lii Inn Tan (Program Manager), attended the event in Singapore from 14th to 16th June 2026. The World Cities Summit is a biennial international event that serves as a global platform for city leaders, policy makers, and industry experts to gather and share with each other their experience and challenges related to urban solutions and smart sustainable development.
The WeGO delegation had the opportunity to join the Mayors Forum on the first day of the event. The Mayors Forum was officiated by Mr. Hong Tat Chee (Minister for National Development in Singapore). During his speech, Minister Chee highlighted the importance of managing urban water for resilience, re-thinking urban energy transition, providing reliable and efficient municipal services, and managing our underground space. Minister Chee highlighted, “Our collective capacity to respond is also something that is real and growing, when we share knowledge openly, when we collaborate widely, and when we act with urgency”.
Throughout the World Cities Summit 2026 in Singapore, the WeGO delegation successfully conducted a series of bilateral meetings with various crucial counterparts, including but not limited to Mr. George Hsieh (Mayor of Keelung), Mr. Wei Wang (Mayor of Suzhou), Mr. Vannak Seng (Vice Governor of Phnom Penh), Mr. Van Johnson (Mayor of Savannah), Mr. Huanghao Luo (Vice Mayor of Shenzhen), Ms. Yu-Ning Hwang (Executive Director (Designate) of the Centre for Liveable Cities in Singapore), Ms. Maimunah Mohd Sharif (former Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, the former Executive Director of UN-Habitat, and High Council Member of Seoul Smart City Prize), Mr. Ciprian Cucu (Mayor of Bucharest), Mr. Sadiq Khan (Mayor of London), Mr. Alex Yam (Mayor of North West District in Singapore), Mr. Wayne Brown (Mayor of Auckland), Ms. Ana Abrunhosa (Mayor of Coimbra), Dr. Roger Mina (General Manager of EMCALI in Santiago de Cali), and H.E. Mr. Jin-Wook Hong (Ambassador of Korea to Singapore).
By attending the World Cities Summit 2026, WeGO continues to share its vision and mission with the international community and at the same time to mutually explore potential collaborations. Initiatives of WeGO and flagship activities of WeGO, particularly the 7th WeGO General Assembly, the Seoul Smart City Prize, and the Seoul Smart Life Week, were promoted throughout the event and throughout the bilateral meetings conducted in Singapore. The visit in Singapore once again underscored WeGO’s commitment to further strengthening its international collaborations and further promoting smart city development in the region.
