WeGO Strengthens Strategic Engagement in Taiwan to Promote Smart City Collaboration and the 4th Seoul Smart City Prize
[Taipei & Kaohsiung, March 17–22, 2026] — The World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization (WeGO) successfully concluded its participation in the 2026 Smart City Summit & Expo (SCSE) in Taipei and Kaohsiung, strengthening engagement with cities and stakeholders across Taiwan, while promoting the Seoul Smart City Prize and the upcoming 7th WeGO General Assembly.
The visit underscored WeGO’s commitment to expanding regional collaboration in Asia and reinforcing its role as a global platform connecting cities, institutions, and industry partners to advance smart and sustainable urban development.
During the visit, WeGO engaged with key city leaders, including Mr. Chiang Wan-an, Mayor of Taipei City, and Mr. Chen Chi-mai, Mayor of Kaohsiung. The meetings provided an opportunity to introduce the organization and extend invitations to upcoming WeGO activities, including the 7th WeGO General Assembly.
In Taipei, throughout the Expo, WeGO engaged with multiple cities, including New Taipei City, Hsinchu City, Taichung City, Taitung City, and Nantou County, to promote the 4th Seoul Smart City Prize. By sharing examples of previous Taiwanese award-winning cities, WeGO highlighted the global relevance and scalability of ongoing projects, encouraging broader consideration of participation and international recognition.
WeGO also engaged in a series of dedicated meetings with city governments, including Chiayi City and the Taipei City Government, providing an opportunity to exchange views on ongoing initiatives and explore potential areas of collaboration. The discussions also touched on key considerations for participation in the Prize, including the significance of citizen impact and the scalability of projects. Both cities showed strong interest in continued engagement with WeGO, including potential applications to the Prize, as well as broader involvement in future activities.
In Kaohsiung, WeGO held a bilateral meeting with the Kaohsiung City Government, during which key smart city initiatives were introduced, including AI-based applications in transportation, water management, and administrative systems. The discussion provided an opportunity to explore collaboration and identify ways to connect local initiatives with WeGO’s global network.
During the official dinner hosted by the International Climate Development Institute (ICDI), WeGO also briefly met with Mayor Chen Chi-mai.
In addition to city-level engagement, WeGO connected with a wide range of stakeholders, including companies and institutions, to introduce the Seoul Smart City Prize and explore opportunities for collaboration. These interactions generated positive responses, with several stakeholders expressing interest in future participation and follow-up discussions.
This engagement in Taiwan represents a strategic step toward strengthening WeGO’s presence in the Asia-Pacific region and expanding collaboration with cities and stakeholders at the forefront of smart city development. By engaging city leaders and promoting global platforms such as the Seoul Smart City Prize and the 7th WeGO General Assembly, WeGO continues to foster opportunities for cities to collaborate, share knowledge, and scale innovative, human-centric urban solutions on a global level.
