WeGO strengthens network with ASEAN mayors
August 27, 2019
BANGKOK – Following the ASEAN Smart Cities Network (ASCN) Annual Meeting, WeGO’s Program Director took part in the 5th ASEAN Mayors Forum (AMF), to further promote the WeGO-ASCN Mayoral Conference, scheduled to take place in November in Seoul, Korea.
This year’s AMF was jointly organized by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and the regional arm of The United Cities and Local Governments Asia Pacific (UCLG-ASPAC). Over 300 representatives of cities, embassies, and international organizations met to discuss how ASEAN countries can work together to address the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and achieve sustainable urban development in general.
Accordingly, breakout sessions were held on the themes of smart technologies, energy and climate, and international partnerships. On the subject of “Digital ASEAN”, WeGO’s Program Director introduced WeGO and its activities supporting the ASCN and its implementation of smart city action plans (SCAPs).
The forum ended with mayoral declarations in support of cooperation on ASCN, including one issued jointly with mayors from Korea, toward “innovative practices to build smart, sustainable, and inclusive cities and societies.”
Over the course of the ASCN Annual Meeting and AMF, WeGO delivered most of the invitations to relevant stakeholders for the November event. Leaders from all 26 ASCN members are expected to attend the 1.5-day conference in Seoul, which will feature themed sessions for the SCAPs, matchmaking for partnership agreements, an exhibition area, and smart city site visits.
