Citypreneurs promoted at CES Asia for expansion to Shanghai

June 14, 2019

SHANGHAI – WeGO has completed a three-day mission to promote its Citypreneurs program at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Asia, in a push to replicate Seoul’s international startup competition in Shanghai.

From June 11 to 13, the Citypreneurs team—which included representatives from co-organizers WFUNA and UNESCAP—publicized the program at its dedicated booth at CES Asia, and hosted two side events on sustainability in technology. A workshop was arranged to provide guidance on aligning business goals with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and
three-panel sessions were conducted on topics related to the theme of “Sustainability in Emerging Tech.”

“Urban Innovation Challenge: Citypreneurs” aims to solve urban challenges in cities under the framework of the SDGs, and WeGO has been one of its official co-hosts since 2018.

This year, WeGO and its partners have embarked on a series of trips to key cities around the world, to expand the program beyond Seoul. In Shanghai, the team took the opportunity to meet with the Shanghai Municipal Government to explore the possibility of having its own competition next year.

WeGO separately met with Shanghai’s Foreign Affairs Office and Transportation Commission to discuss collaboration such as a study visit for WeGO members to Shanghai, along with the
city’s participation in other activities carried out by WeGO. Dialogue with the city was initiated at a biannual meeting of public transport authorities in Asia-Pacific earlier this year, organized in Seoul by the International Association of Public Transport (UITP).
