ASEAN smart cities forge relations with WeGO and partners in Bangkok
June 7, 2019
BANGKOK – WeGO and its partners established ties with smart cities across ASEAN, at a key event jointly organized with the Government of Thailand via its Digital Economy Promotion
Agency (DEPA).
The two-day ASEAN Smart Cities Network (ASCN) Roundtable Meeting and Conference on Smart and Sustainable Cities is the Thai Government’s first official event for ASCN since occupying the Chair of ASEAN in January. Around 500 officials from ASEAN national and local governments, along with partners such as the US and Japanese Governments and the private sector,
listened in on the series of sessions focused on smart cities.
WeGO introduced close to 30 of its own partners from the Korean Government; Presidential Committee for New Southern Policy; Seoul Housing & Communities Corporation; Tmoney;
Reimagining Cities Foundation; Asian Development Bank; and the ASEAN-Korea Centre, to matchmake them with stakeholders for the implementation of smart city action plans in Southeast Asia.

Partners served as panelists in discussions on SDG goals and international cooperation and assistance in smart city development and shared their smart city experience and best practices.
WeGO further arranged a networking lunch for partners and members of ASCN, which saw an attendance of around 250. Local officials used the occasion to connect with consultants and solution providers with expertise across the spectrum of smart city areas, and explored the opportunities for smart and sustainable development in their cities.
DEPA is slated to host an annual meeting, conference, and exhibition at a much larger scale for ASCN from August 22 to 24, to which WeGO plans to bring in even more partners such as the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF), World Bank, and others.
To further the strategic partnerships entered into over the course of the year, WeGO is preparing to host its own mayoral conference for the 26 members of ASCN in Seoul in November.
