Delegation from East Asia Regional Office visits Secretariat

SEOUL – High-level officials from Chengdu, China, visited WeGO’s Secretariat this morning to discuss areas for further cooperation and to invite the Secretary General to upcoming events hosted by the city.
Mme. He Jun, Deputy Secretary General of the Chengdu Municipal Committee, and Mme. Li Li, Vice President of the Chengdu People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, presented their city’s plans for the 2019 Chengdu Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fair (GIEF), to take place June 10-12. The annual event will serve as an international platform to gather innovation and entrepreneurship resources from around the world, and this year expects to welcome over 2,400 guests from 30 countries and regions.
Chengdu, which serves as WeGO’s East Asia Regional Office, will also be hosting the 2019 World Police and Fire Games (WPFG), taking place in Asia for the first time in the event’s history. Law enforcement officers and firefighters from over 70 countries will compete in a series of sporting activities August 8-18.
Secretary General Kyong-yul Lee pledged the Secretariat’s support for Chengdu’s international events, and conveyed his interest in speaking at GIEF. The Secretariat has established a special fund to support its regional offices from this year, and is now working to promote GIEF and the WPFG to WeGO members and other stakeholders in its network.
Chengdu is a major city in China with over 40 sister city and other friendly relations. Besides GIEF and WPFG, it plans to hold its annual smart city & e-government training program in the last quarter of 2019, and looks forward to welcoming WeGO members to the event.
