MOU with ICDI concluded at smart city event in Taiwan

TAIPEI – WeGO entered into an MOU with the International Climate Development Institute (ICDI) yesterday, on the sidelines of the Smart City Summit & Expo 2019 in Taiwan.
The new partnership will start by exploring possibilities for a joint “2020 Global Smart Solution Report,” together with other city-based organizations CityNet, Centre for Liveable Cities (CLC), and International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI). The report would be prepped for launch at the end of the year at COP25 in Santiago, Chile.
The four-day summit and expo, organized annually by the City of Taipei, Taiwan Smart City Solutions Alliance (TSSA), and Taipei Computer Association (TCA), features a main exhibition, a mayors’ summit, an award ceremony, professional conferences, and demo tours. It is the biggest smart city exhibition in Asia and second-largest in the world, focusing this year on AIoT and its impact on smart cities.
With 220+ mayors, CIOs, and city representatives, 120+ AI startup companies and telecom operators, and 500+ system integrators and specialists this year, the event serves as an international platform for idea-sharing and business cooperation.
WeGO shared a promotional booth with other international organizations. Over the course of the week, its delegation engaged in networking with Taiwan’s major cities including Taichung, Kaohsiung, and Tainan, and others in the region such as Kyoto and Fukuoka. Meetings were also arranged with Acer and other corporations, as well as institutions like the MIT Enterprise Forum Central & Eastern Europe.
WeGO Secretary General Kyong-yul Lee served as a panelist in one of the main sessions on green economy, alongside representatives from CityNet, CLC, ICDI, and others. SG Lee emphasized the need for urgent action to contain global warming, and demonstrated through case sharing from member cities how the shift to a green economy can be achieved through smart city development.
On the sidelines of the event, SG Lee and his delegation also took the opportunity to meet with the new commissioner of Taipei and pay a courtesy call to New Taipei. WeGO is in discussions with both cities on possible membership and further collaboration.
With the successful closing of the summit and expo, ICDI further pledged to visit Seoul in the first week of July, to advance its shared initiatives with WeGO.
