The World e-Governments Organization of Cities and Local Governments (WeGO) partnered with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in organizing the 2nd Asia-Pacific Regional Forum on Smart Sustainable Cities and e-Government from August 30 to September 1, 2016 in the beautiful resort island of Phuket, Thailand. The forum was hosted by the Ministry of ICT of the Kingdom of Thailand and brought together more than 200 policy makers, practitioners, industry leaders, and all other relevant stakeholders in e-Government and ICT from Asia-Pacific and all over the world. This is the second time WeGO co-organized this event with ITU after holding it successfully in Bangkok in 2015.

Aside from inviting guests to come and participate at the forum, WeGO spearheaded the organization of three of the forum sessions namely: Session 4: Smart City Policy Framework and City-to-City Cooperation for Smart Sustainable City Development; Session 5: Partnering with Smart Citizens for the City We Need; and Session 6: IoTs and Data Revolution for the Smart Sustainable City. The sessions were led by experts and high-level officials from various local governments, who shared their knowledge and expertise in smart city innovations. The reception of the sessions was good, and the interesting presentations paved the way for dynamic panel discussions.

The 2nd Asia-Pacific Regional Forum on Smart Sustainable Cities and e-Government not only served as a venue to share knowledge and best practices, but also acted as a platform for business matching, thereby enabling business opportunities and strengthening partnerships and collaboration among various stakeholders.
