As part of the lockdown in Greece, citizens are not allowed to leave their homes between 6AM to 9PM and for any essential journey, citizens must obtain prior permission to leave their houses. To avoid any inefficiencies when granting these permissions, Greece has implemented an SMS-based system through which citizens must inform where they are going, for what purposes and for how long. For those who cannot access the SMS service, a call service is also in place.

FEATURES

  • The text must be sent to the phone number 13033 with one’s name and address, the reason for going out and the time-frame for when the person will be leaving and returning. A copy of a state-issued ID will have to be submitted as well. After sending the text, an individual must wait for a return message granting permission.
  • While Call Service is also available for those who cannot access the SMS service, the SMS service does not support foreign telecommunication providers and non-Cypriot numbers.

ONGOING RESULTS

  • 1.8 million daily number of requests have been submitted via the SMS system, facilitating the overall process of granting permission for essential journeys and better managing the spread of COVID-19.
