The Mexico City Government has generated monthly and semi-annual reports on excess mortality. These can provide relevant information for assessing the impact of the global pandemic and for estimating the burden of mortality from COVID-19 in the country’s capital.
FEATURES
- A first report was generated during the first half of 2020. This and other reports and executive summaries can be consulted at the following official link: https://covid19.cdmx.gob.mx/comunicacion/nota/ excess-mortality
- Estimates on excess mortality in Mexico City were created using data from death certificates registered in all the courts in the capital of the country, and in records created by the Epidemiological Surveillance System of Viral Respiratory Disease, administered by the General Directorate of Epidemiology of the Federal Health Secretariat.
- As an analysis of all deaths unrelated to specific causes, the estimated excess of deaths is interpreted through causes associated with COVID-19.
ONGOING RESULTS
- This indicator has served as a proactive transparency exercise generated by Mexico City which is, at this writing, the only entity in the country to make such information public.
