The World e-Governments Organization of Cities and Local Governments (WeGO), hosted a pavilion at the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona, Spain from November 15 to 17, 2016. The event is a professional, institutional, and social meeting point serving as a leading platform of ideas, networking, experiences, and international business deals that gathers together the highest level of stakeholders, in the context of urban development.

This year, it drew over 16,000 attendees, 600 cities, and featured more than 420 speakers. For the second year in a row, WeGO’s pavilion offered members the opportunity to showcase their smart city programs on the biggest international stage, with Moscow, Seongnam, and NITDA Nigeria joining the pavilion.

Among the speakers featured were WeGO’s own Secretary General, Dr. Young-sook Nam, who spoke on open innovation and crowdsourcing urban development, and several WeGO members. Mr. Andrey Belozerov, Deputy CIO of Moscow, and Mr. Bernard Ewah, Head of e-Government of NITDA Nigeria, both gave presentations at the main congress; while Mr. Jin-Heung Kim, Vice Mayor of Seongnam, participated in the panel discussion of the Smart UP event.

WeGO already looks forward to building on the success of this year’s participation at next year’s edition of the Congress, which will be held from November 14 to 16, 2017.
