
Yang-seog Cheong
Yang-seog Cheong is a prominent Korean public figure with a distinguished career in politics, diplomacy and social welfare. He currently serves as President of Special Olympics Korea, where he advocates for the rights and inclusion of individuals with intellectual disabilities through sports and community engagement. Mr. Cheong has held several key national leadership roles. In 2022, he was appointed as the Special Presidential Envoy to COP27 (27th United Nations Climate Change Conference), representing the Republic of Korea in high-level international climate diplomacy. He also served as Secretary General of the People Power Party and Chairman of the Party’s Seoul Metropolitan Chapter, contributing to political strategy and governance at both national and local levels. As a two-term member of the National Assembly of Korea (18th and 20th sessions), Mr. Cheong was actively engaged in legislative affairs, including foreign affairs, unification, and environmental policy. His parliamentary work reflected a commitment to national interest, diplomatic cooperation, and inclusive development. With a career spanning political leadership, international representation and social advocacy, Mr. Cheong brings a multidimensional perspective to his current role at Special Olympics Korea. He remains committed to building a more equitable and inclusive society both within Korea and on the global stage.
