WeGO signs MoU with Geneva Cities Hub
VIRTUAL– WeGO and Geneva Cities Hub (GCH) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance global cooperation and multilateral engagement between the parallel smart city organizations.
Geneva Cities Hub is a platform for the global city networks and numerous international institutions established by the city of Geneva and the Canton of Geneva through the support of the Swiss Confederation.
Secretary General of WeGO, Jung Sook Park and Geneva Cities Hub President Sami Kanaan signed the agreement in a special virtual ceremony.
The MoU constitutes WeGO and GCH will join forces in strengthening the participation of local and regional governments in multilateralism, particularly in the context of people-centered digitalization. The mutual goals include enhancing the capabilities of cities, institutions and corporations and developing transformative solutions.
WeGO and GCH have the plans to execute the collaborative agreement on smart city development regarding urban issues, sustainability, and digitalization. The networks will be used to disseminate information and co-organize knowledge exchange activities and events, including the ITU WSIS Forum.

Especially with Geneva Cities Hub’ wide network in Europe and WeGO’s extensive list of member cities from all over the world, we can leverage the network of both parties to build synergies in developing regional competitiveness and expanding our scope of influence in the region.“ said the Secretary General.
“As expressed by the Secretary General, we have very similar views regarding the future of collaboration among local and regional governments on issues of utmost importance for humanity. Our point of view and challenges are very similar as for our vision regarding the new way of inclusive multilateral cooperation so I am conveying that we are mutually reinforcing and complementary. ” said President Kanaan.
This MoU will provide close commitment for WeGO and GCH to assist cities globally in becoming resilient and inclusive with a unified vision.
The first cooperation of the two organizations in this new year is the World Summit on the Information Society Forum 2023. The annual World Summit on the Information Society Forum (WSIS) is a global multi stakeholder platform facilitating the implementation of the WSIS Action Lines organized by ITU, UNESCO, UNDP and UNCTAD, co-facilitators and other UN organizations. This Forum is the world’s largest gathering of the Information and Communication Technologies community, attracting over 50,000 participants.
WeGO, in collaboration with ITU and Geneva Cities Hub, will co-organize the Mayors’ High-level events at the WSIS Forum 2023, scheduled March 13th including a Mayors’ Roundtable attended by WeGO member cities including the President City, Seoul Metropolitan Government and other leading cities discussing on the best practices and challenges of digital solutions for building resilient and inclusive cities.
