WeGO meets Dassault Systems, Investissement Québec International, and Sphere Entertainment during CES 2024

Seoul, January 15, 2024 –  WeGO (World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization) participated in the 2024 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), held from January 9-12, at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Attending one of the most successful tech events featuring cutting-edge and human-centered innovations, WeGO’s primary aim was to promote the Seoul Smart City Prize and also engage with innovative partners and solution providers at the scene of Las Vegas.

WeGO started the second and third day by making a tour around the booths to identify good candidates for the Seoul Smart City Prize and encourage eligible participants to apply. Introducing the Seoul Prize, which awards projects that focus on technological innovation or human-centric application of smart city technology, more interest in the 2024 application was secured.

Some of the booths WeGO visited with the Director-General of the Digital Policy Bureau at the Seoul Metropolitan Government were the ones organized by Dassault Systems. The company provides the life sciences and healthcare industry with virtual twin experiences of the human body to help solve complex health issues and improve people’s life quality. While Dassault Systems Korea Corp. is one of WeGO’s corporate members, at CES, WeGO met with Dr. Steven Levine of the Dassault Systems Americas Corp., who explained how the virtual twin technology can be applied to other industries including urban administration and management.

WeGO, with Director-General Mr. Jin Young Park, also participated in a meeting with Investissement Québec International, which held a booth at the Las Vegas Convention Center. From the Québec Government Office at Silicon Valley, Director of Economic Affairs, Mr. Mathieu Cormier, and Trans-Pacific Attache, Ms. Carmen Zanfirescu, joined the meeting. WeGO took the opportunity to invite Québec and its companies to take part in the Seoul Smart City Prize and the Seoul Smart Life Week to be held in October 2024. As Seoul and Québec recently have been strengthening their ties in the area of Artificial Intelligence (AI), especially with the partnership established between the Montreal Institute for Learning Algorithms (MILA) and the Seoul AI Hub, WeGO also expects further participation of Québec in WeGO’s activities in 2024.

WeGO concluded its participation in CES by meeting with the representative of the Sphere Entertainment Company while WeGO and its President City Seoul visited and toured the Sphere venue. WeGO Secretary-General, Mayor of Seoul, and Senior Vice President and General Manager of Sphere, Mr. Edward Lunger, discussed the technology used behind Sphere allowing a truly immersive experience for its visitors. Mr. Lunger, who is responsible for the overall management of the Sphere venue and executes strategic plans in alignment with Sphere’s overall business, shared how Sphere serves as a next-generation entertainment medium that uses cutting-edge and eco-friendly technologies that allow audiences to powerfully connect through a shared experience using all their senses. WeGO and Seoul, in particular, gained insight on how to best host and present the Seoul Smart City Prize Ceremony and the Seoul Smart Life Week 2024 for its attendees and audience.
