WeGO and the Embassy of Ecuador Conclude Successful Meeting on AME Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
Seoul, January 31, 2024 – The World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization (WeGO) has taken a significant step towards forging a strategic partnership with the Ecuadorian Association of Municipalities (AME). A high-level meeting held on January 31, 2024, at the WeGO Office in Seoul focused on advancing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and exploring collaborative efforts in the realm of smart city initiatives.
The primary objectives of the meeting were to discuss AME’s potential membership in WeGO, lay the groundwork for an official MoU signing ceremony, and promote the prestigious Seoul Smart City Prize. The dialogue resulted in highly promising outcomes, with AME expressing strong interest in becoming a member of WeGO. A pivotal moment emerged during discussions about a prospective visit to South Korea in May 2024. The visit is poised to include five mayors and the president of AME, aiming to solidify the AME-WeGO MoU and delve into collaboration across various smart city fields. This international collaboration is anticipated to foster knowledge exchange, innovative solutions, and joint projects.
The Embassy of Ecuador played a central role in the meeting, with Mr. Orlin Madrid Cepeda, Chief of the Diplomatic Mission of Ecuador in Korea, and Ms. Lizeth Barros, International Cooperation Officer, expressing their strong commitment to facilitating collaboration between WeGO and Ecuadorian entities. The Embassy emphasized its keen interest in WeGO’s mission and highlighted its dedication to acting as a bridge for memberships and partnerships.
Ms. Jung-Sook Park, Secretary General of WeGO, remarked, “The successful meeting with the Embassy of Ecuador marks a significant stride in our mission to promote smart and sustainable urban development globally. We look forward to welcoming AME into the WeGO family and the potential synergy that will arise from our collaboration.”
