WeGO and NIA Joint Workshop Attracts International Participants to learn about Smart City, ICT, AI, DATA, and Network
Seoul, July 27, 2023 – The World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization (WeGO) and the National Information Society Agency (NIA) co-organized a workshop from July 24-28, 2023, in South Korea. The workshop has attracted over 16 local and national level urban practitioners from Sao Paulo (Brazil), Tubah (Cameroon), Almaty (Kazakhstan), Seberang Perai (Malaysia), Quezon City, and Makati City (Philippines).
This year, under the theme of “Development of digital government and smart city in Korea: Capacity building through knowledge sharing and open access,” WeGO and NIA will host a 5-day training course tailored to 1) enhance participants’ knowledge and understanding of smart city policy; 2) improve capacity through hands-on experience with Korea’s smart city stakeholders; and 3) share Korea’s internally recognized digital government policies and strategies. WeGO-NIA Joint Training Course aims to better equip our members to better tackle urban challenges and socio-economic problems with innovative and localized, smart city solutions.
The workshop featured Korean and International speakers who engaged with participants to highlight the enabling factors of Korea’s advancement in ICT applications, international best practices, and site visits to the National Information Resources Service in Daejeon City, Sejong City’s Digital Government Exhibit Hall, Sejong City Integrated Information Center, Anyang Smart City Integration Center (Anyang), and Seongnam Korea Expressway Cooperation Transportation Center to highlight the importance of smart growth, public-private partnerships and provide examples of ICT applications in the field.
Participants engaged throughout the workshop, forming international teams tasked with proposing how ICT, Data, Networks, and AI could be embedded into their local and national context. The joint workshop is an annual program organized to explore smart sustainable practices and to provide WeGO Members with the knowledge exchange and practical skills on how to successfully embed smart and sustainable practices.
