Seoul, March 31, 2025 — The World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization (WeGO) successfully hosted its WeGO Advisory Board Kick-Off Event 2025, bringing together key advisory board members to discuss WeGO’s 2025 agenda and strategies for fostering global smart city collaboration. This event served as a platform for sharing insights on human-centric smart cities and strengthening cooperation with advisory board members.

WeGO Secretary General Jeong-kee Kim delivered the welcoming remarks, highlighting WeGO’s commitment to advancing sustainable and inclusive smart city initiatives. Arthur Lee, Chair of the Department of Computer Science at SUNY Korea and newly appointed Co-Chair of the WeGO Advisory Board, delivered congratulatory remarks, emphasizing the importance of expert collaboration in shaping WeGO’s strategic direction.

The event provided an opportunity to introduce WeGO’s key initiatives for 2025 and engage in meaningful discussions on the future of smart city development. Advisory board members offered invaluable insights that will help guide WeGO’s efforts in encouraging broader global participation from cities of all sizes. Discussions also explored the cultural and civilizational approaches to smart city evolution, strategies for effective city branding, and ways to integrate small and medium sized cities into the global smart city network. A key focus of the discussions was the dual commitment to smart city growth and carbon neutrality. Participants exchanged ideas on sustainable development strategies that balance technological advancement with environmental responsibility. WeGO aims to facilitate stronger collaboration among cities worldwide to create a well rounded and inclusive smart city ecosystem.

As part of its commitment to empowering smart city leaders and fostering innovation, WeGO introduced the Champions Program, designed to cultivate key experts driving innovative policies and projects in the smart city sector. Additionally, WeGO announced the launch of the Global Youth Award, a new initiative recognizing young innovators contributing to smart and sustainable urban development. The event also featured the introduction of the WeGO Seoul Smart City Prize, which celebrates outstanding smart city projects worldwide and promotes best practices in urban innovation. This event marks the beginning of a deeper engagement between WeGO and its advisory board members, setting the stage for continued collaboration to drive impactful smart city solutions in the years ahead.
