Seoul, February 21, 2024 –  WeGO welcomed the Quezon City delegation of 40 government officials led by Vice-Mayor Mr. Gian Carlo Sotto attending the WeGO 2024 Activities Kick-off event in person. The delegation commenced their activities with a meeting with the Mayor of Goyang City, one of the WeGO member cities in Korea, where they exchanged views on urban governance best practices and explored potential areas for collaboration. A fruitful discussion was facilitated by the WeGO Secretary General Ms. Jung Sook Park who built a new path of future partnership between two cities. Subsequent site visits included an introduction to Drone Anchor technology and a tour of the Smart Safety Center, providing first-hand exposure to cutting-edge solutions in public safety and urban management.

Another significant aspect of the visit was the delegation’s visit to the Seoul Transport Operation & Information Service (TOPIS), where they learned about innovative transportation management systems and information services crucial for enhancing urban mobility and efficiency.

A highlight of the delegation’s mission was highlighted by their attendance at the 2024 WeGO Activities Kick-off Event held on the theme of “Smart Life in Smart City”. In this event, the Quezon City delegation had a chance to learn more about key agendas, programs, and events for implementation in the smart city area through WeGO in 2024 and networking with 200 WeGO members, partners, and stakeholders from 31 countries, including 17 ambassadors, 14 corporate members & partners, and 17 institutions.

During the WeGO Kick-off Event, Quezon City expressed interest in applying for the Second Seoul Smart City Prize, showcasing its commitment to innovation and inclusivity in smart city development. This initiative, established in partnership with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and WeGO, aims to recognize and showcase innovative smart city projects supporting vulnerable groups in the digital age.

Following their participation in the WeGO kick-off event, the delegation from Quezon City took part in a collaborative session with speakers from the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Tourism Organization. During this session, they had the opportunity to engage in learning sessions focused on key aspects of smart city development. Representatives from the Seoul Metropolitan Government provided insights into map services, highlighting innovative approaches to mapping technologies and their applications in urban planning and navigation. Additionally, the Seoul Tourism Organization shared expertise on smart tourism initiatives, offering valuable perspectives on leveraging technology to enhance the visitor experience and promote sustainable tourism practices. These informative sessions provided the Quezon City delegation with valuable knowledge and inspiration to consider for potential adaptation in their own city’s development efforts.

Overall, Quezon City’s benchmarking activities in South Korea underscore its commitment to staying at the forefront of urban innovation and enhancing the quality of life for its residents through strategic partnerships and the adoption of global best practices.
