Meet WeGO New Secretary General Mr. Jeong-kee Kim

Seoul, October 04th — WeGO Secretariat is pleased to present to members and partners as the newly appointed Secretary General of WeGO, Mr. Jeong-kee Kim. His appointment was officially announced on October 1st, 2024, by the President of WeGO, the Seoul Metropolitan Government. With a distinguished academic background and extensive experience in law, governance, and sustainable development, he is well-equipped to lead WeGO in its mission to promote smart and sustainable urban growth.

Throughout his life, Mr. Kim has been engaged in a variety of professional pursuits. In 2000, he was elected as the first president of Soongsil Cyber University, the first Internet-based university founded by Yonsei University and Chosun Daily. In 2007, he served as the International Committee Chairman for Presidential Candidate Myung Bak Lee. In 2008, he was appointed as the 8th Consul General of the Korean Consulate General in Shanghai (Ambassador Rank) and as the Commissioner General of the Korean Pavilion of Shanghai Expo. In 2010, he was nominated as the 1st Vice Minister of the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 2012 to 2020, he worked as a senior attorney-at-law at DR-Aju LLC and simultaneously taught as a distinguished professor various courses on law, political science, history, sociology, economics, business administration, future studies, and negotiation at Korean universities (SNU, Yonsei, Korea, Kyeonghee, Dongguk, Kookmin, Hannam, Seonggyul, Yongin) and Chinese universities (Peking, Nanjing). In 2021, he served as the Political Reform Committee Chairman and Political Strategy Advisor for Presidential Candidate Seok Ryul Yun.

Mr. Kim graduated summa cum laude from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1990 and received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Marquette University Law School in 2000. He furthered his education by completing a prestigious Senior Executive Programs at Harvard University and Seoul National University in addition to conducting research in North Korea and China as a scholar at Peking University in 2005. As an accomplished author, Mr. Kim has penned numerous best-selling books, including Georo English Studies Series for College Students (1983-1995), I Challenge the Possibility of One Percent (2002), The Art of Negotiation (2004), and Korea and the World (2023).
