WeGO and TCS agree to expand initiatives for CJK smart cities next year

November 12, 2021

SEOUL – WeGO met with the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS)—an international organization established with a vision to promote peace and common prosperity among China, Japan, and South Korea—to discuss the ways forward in the cooperation between the two organizations and the plan to support smart city development in China, Japan, and South Korea (referred to in short as ‘CJK’) next year. WeGO has been working with TCS with the aim to jointly establish a smart city cooperation platform for China, Japan, and South Korea.

TCS’ new Secretary General Boqian Ou, recently appointed in August this year, expressed her appreciation for WeGO’s previous collaboration with TCS in organizing the Webinar on CJK Smart Cities in 2020, and warmly welcomed collaboration with WeGO in the field of smart cities as a way to improve sustainability and well-being of citizens in CJK cities.

Similarly WeGO’s Secretary General Jung Sook Park expressed her eagerness to push the initiative forward, and explained that China, Japan and South Korea’s own abundant resources and experience in smart city development makes it particularly meaningful to promote smart city cooperation in those countries.

Additionally, SG Park presented WeGO’s new initiative for youth through which WeGO will  organize hands-on activities for university students, and proposed to conduct similar activities to raise the awareness of smart city development to young people from China, Japan and South Korea, by partnering with CAMPUS Asia (or ‘Collective Action for Mobility Program of University Students in Asia’, an exchange program for Chinese, Japanese, and South Korean university students.)

WeGO and TCS also agreed to extend TCS’ cultural exchange programs for the government officials to include smart city site visits and knowledge-sharing sessions in order to establish the platform for CJK practitioners to initiate partnerships in smart and sustainable development next year.

Finally, in the upcoming year, WeGO and TCS agreed to hold a follow-up smart city conference for CJK city officials with local partners following the successful ‘Webinar on CJK Smart Cities in 2020.
