Citypreneurs winner receives prize for air purification solution

February 6, 2020

SEOUL – Canadian clean air technology company WeavAir, a member of WeGO and winner of the WeGO’s Secretary General Award in 2018, received the Best Innovation Award today at the final ceremony of the Seoul Global Challenge.

Launched in August last year, Seoul Global Challenge – organized by WeGO member Seoul Business Agency – is a competition seeking to find the most innovative fine dust solutions for the subway, one of Seoul’s most pressing issues. WeavAir was selected as one of the 10 finalists among 100+ applicants from eight countries.

For the final round, the finalists had the opportunity to install and operate their solutions inside the subway tunnels, platforms, and trains during the month of January. They were evaluated by both a jury and a pre-selected group of citizens on their effectiveness in reducing fine dust levels.

Winners were awarded based on categories including effectiveness in reducing fine dust, economic viability, innovation, interoperability, and execution. WeavAir has been recognized for its patented air purification technology and received the Best Innovation Award at the Seoul Fine Dust Expo 2020. Finalists will additionally receive benefits including follow-up support for possible funding and connections with public testbeds.

The second phase of the Seoul Global Challenge, under the same theme, is expected to start in April this year.
