Join us in shaping the future of WeGO and smart sustainable cities development

About Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi, the vibrant capital of the United Arab Emirates, is home to over 4 million people. As well as being a crucial financial and cultural hub, the host city has a clear vision: to be a leading enabler of smart and sustainable development in the Middle East and North Africa region.
This ambition is deeply embedded in the Emirate’s ethos, making it an ideal setting for the WeGO Executive Committee Meeting 2025. A WeGO member since 2010, the city further strengthened its reputation by opening the organisation’s MENA Regional Office last year.
Abu Dhabi’s long-standing commitment to world-leading urban solutions is evidenced by its winning of the prestigious 2024 Seoul Smart City Prize for its innovative “STEAM+ Modelling & Analytics Framework” project, and being ranked 5th globally in the 2025 IMD Smart City Index.
A City Built for the Future
Abu Dhabi’s impressive infrastructure is another testament to its forward-thinking urban planning. It boasts an exceptional network of roads, advanced public transportation systems, and state-of-the-art digital connectivity, all designed to support a high quality of life and foster economic growth.
This remarkable achievement reflects the strategic initiatives of Abu Dhabi’s leadership and efforts from government entities such as the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT).
Innovative Global Destination
While its smart city credentials are undeniable, Abu Dhabi offers much more to explore, including architectural marvels such as the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and the iconic Capital Gate building. It also boasts a thriving cultural scene, through museums such as Louvre Abu Dhabi, with the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and Zayed National Museum nearing completion.
Visitors can view the UAE’s conservation efforts by visiting the various mangrove parks throughout the Emirate, such as the Eastern Mangrove Lagoon National Park, that offers visitors the opportunity to spot some of Abu Dhabi’s diverse wildlife.
