Seoul and Shanghai Explore Stronger Urban Ties During WeGO Visit
Shanghai, March 27th, 2025 — The Secretary General of the World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization (WeGO), Mr. Jeong-kee Kim, was invited to the Grand Opening of SEMICON China that was held on March 26 2025 in Shanghai. During the Grand Opening, the Secretary General of WeGO delivered the special keynote speech.
Throughout the keynote speech, the relevance between the smart city sector and semiconductor industry was highlighted by the Secretary General of WeGO. The important values of ESG concepts within the Smart City Framework was outlined while the partnership between WeGO and SEMI was also emphasized. The Secretary General of WeGO also grabbed the precious opportunity to further promote WeGO, the Seoul Smart CIty Prize, and the Seoul Smart Life Week during his special keynote speech.
On March 27, 2025, the Secretary General of WeGO had the opportunity to meet the Consul-General of Korea to Shanghai to promote the vision and mission of WeGO together with the Seoul Smart City Prize.
In addition, a courtesy visit was paid to the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government where a bilateral meeting was held with the Deputy Director-General of the Foreign Affairs Office at the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government. This meeting marked a significant step towards deepening cooperation between Seoul and Shanghai. The Deputy Director-General expressed Shanghai’s interest in learning more about the Seoul Smart Life Week, noting the city’s potential delegation to Seoul later this year. Furthermore, both sides agreed to mutually invite each other to participate in international events hosted by Seoul and Shanghai, reaffirming their shared vision of cooperation for sustainable urban development.
The WeGO’s mission in Shanghai concluded fruitfully. Through this mission, the network of WeGO in Shanghai is hopefully to be expanded, and the relations between Seoul and Shanghai is to be further deepened.
