UN Women in the Republic of Korea (RoK) and the WeGO celebrated International Women’s Day with a resounding call to ‘Invest in Women.’

Seoul, March 08, 2024 –  Secretary General, Jung Sook Park participated in the UN Women’s International Women’s Day Celebration for 2024 on 8 March 2023. An important message for women was presented, together with the international community from all around the world, that investing in women is both necessary and good for everyone’s better future.

The event aimed to highlight and discuss the critical imperative of investing in women and girls, affirming unwavering support for UN Women’s mission. This year’s International Women’s Day theme, “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,” aligns with the theme of the 68th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), underscoring the global commitment to advancing gender equality. CSW, the largest UN meeting dedicated to the gender equality agenda, is scheduled from 11 to 22 March, with attendance expected from thousands worldwide. The Center’s celebration not only emphasized the importance of investing in women but also served as a precursor to the discussions and initiatives to be undertaken during the upcoming CSW session.
