Addressing Climate Change in a Time of Need with Smart City Experts
Climate change is a defining issue of our time. With the adversities faced by growing climate change on our planet, including shifting weather patterns that affect our food supply and rising sea levels that lead to flooding, action needs to be taken today to avoid more costly and harmful consequences in the future. Cities have the unique ability to address these global challenges, especially in adapting climate and energy policy action to the current situation.
As drivers of smart city development, WeGO intends to focus on the most pressing challenges posed on the citizens. By gathering experts in the field of energy and environment, the course aims to identify major causes of climate change, its impact on various population groups and explore practical solutions to address them.
The course consists of 13 lecturers with diverse expertise in energy and environment from all around the world. WeGO also invited back distinguished professors from the WeGO Smart City Champions, including Alexandre Babak Hedjazi, Director of the Global Environment Policy Programme at the Institute for Environmental Sciences, University of Geneva and Ursula Eicker, Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC), Smart, Sustainable, and Resilient Cities and Communities at Concordia University. Furthermore, WeGO invited experts who will bring forth new initiatives, models and approaches to solving the climate issue, such as Graham Colclough, Partner Program Manager at UrbanDNA.
Other esteemed lecturers include Jeffrey Ball, Professor at Stanford University, John Bryne, Distinguished Professor at the University of Delaware, Clark Miller, Professor at Arizona State University, Sharad Lele, Senior Researcher at Ashoka Trust and Job Taminiau, Senior Research Principal at the Foundation for Renewable Energy and Environment (FREE).

Registration is now open to all WeGO members and will close on September 9th. The first lecture of the course will take place on September 16th.
