The Institute of Studies for the Integration of Systems (Isinnova) is using special 3D-printed ventilator valves, called Charlotte valve, to transform full-face snorkeling gear into an emergency ventilator mask to provide critical care during the shortage of certified health care supplies.
FEATURES
- This device is not certified because it was designed solely to provide critical care during the shortage of certified health care supplies. It can only be used with the patient’s written consent.
- The design of Charlotte valve is made freely available to public. Unlike the respirator valve, it is easy to make, so it is possible for all makers to try to print it correctly.
ONGOING RESULTS
- The first batch of valves has reportedly been delivered.
- The device is aimed to help meet the shortage of an emergency mask and the urgent need for it. Although not-certified, the new device was considered indispensable for patients and medical staff amid coronavirus outbreak.
- Isinnova has released the valve design for free online so that others can fabricate ventilation devices easily.
