With the national lockdown of public institutions and schools in Denmark, many students face difficulty in continuing their education. In response to this, MentorDanmark, the country’s biggest tutoring company has launched a free service called MentorHotline that targets children who are not able to obtain help with their studies. Recognizing that children need help in continuing their education during such times, MentorHotline aims to match suitable mentors with the needs of the children.

FEATURES

  • Online Homework Platform: Students can log in to search for a tutor and get help in their homework. One session lasts up to 15 minutes, however, the student can ask for unlimited sessions, if necessary. Mentors are alerted by messages automatically sent by the system which inform the mentors of the assignment the student is asking help for.
  • The mentors are hired on a volunteer-based system and to ensure safety of the children using the service, a thorough screening of the volunteers takes place, including a screening for a clean criminal record, no sexual offense record, as well as the volunteer’s academic competence and pedagogical skills.

ONGOING RESULTS

  • Recorded 200 voluntary mentor sign-ups within 2 days of launching and 300 within the week.
  • Within the first week of launching, the service helped more than 400 students with their school assignments.
