Citypreneurs promoted at leading startup event in Southern Italy

September 21, 2019

MARATEA – WeGO promoted its activities and networked with Italian and international startups, CEOs, and other private sector representatives at a regional event in Southern Italy.

HEROES Meet in Maratea, organized annually since 2016, attracted over 2,000 attendees from September 19 to 21. The event seeks to support the Italian startup ecosystem and bring innovation to the Basilicata region through a local startup competition and a series of sessions, workshops, and roundtables. This year’s program focused on the relationship between technology and the future, mobility and infrastructure, and robotics and automation, in line with the overall theme of “Moving Economies through Time and Space.”

WeGO presented on its international opportunities for businesses and startups, including its feasibility study program, matchmaking activities, and the Urban Innovation Challenge: Citypreneurs, a startup competition dedicated to solving urban challenges while achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

WeGO also seized the opportunity to meet with leading Italian startup-related organizations, such as Italia Startup and OpenItaly, to discuss possibilities for future collaboration on related programs such as Citypreneurs. Other connections made include with the National Association of Young Innovators (ANGI) from Rome, smart city-related organization Material Connection from Milan, and the University of Bari, to explore how to further engage with and involve stakeholders from the region in WeGO’s activities.

In continuation of promotional activities for the worldwide expansion of Citypreneurs, WeGO and the other co-organizers are now preparing for the 7th Asia-Pacific Urban Forum (APUF) in Penang from October 15 to 17.
