June 28, 2019
SEOUL – WeGO’s Secretary General continued his meetings with heads of diplomatic missions, in preparation for a series of trips across Latin America.
Over the past month, Secretary General Kyong-yul Lee met with the ambassadors of Colombia, Paraguay, and Venezuela, to establish and strengthen relations ahead of key events in the region, including the Smart City Expo LATAM Congress in Puebla, Mexico; meetings with ministers in San Jose, Costa Rica; and the World Cities Summit Mayors Forum in Medellin, Colombia.
In SG Lee’s meeting with Colombia, the ambassador pledged to encourage cities in his country to become members of WeGO and shared his plans to arrange meetings with 32 governors and 32 heads of provincial capitals in early 2020.
Paraguay and Venezuela, whose respective capitals of Asuncion and Caracas are members of WeGO, renewed their commitment to work with WeGO and engage through their cities at events such as the mayors forum in Medellin and WeGO’s Executive Committee (EXCOM) Meeting in Seongnam City.
SG Lee additionally met with the Lebanese ambassador to involve Beirut and other Lebanese cities in WeGO activities toward their possible membership.
WeGO has since departed for Puebla for the LATAM Congress, which ends tomorrow. Meetings with other ambassadors continue to be scheduled and will resume upon the end of the mission in mid-July.
