April 23, 2019
KUALA LUMPUR – WeGO has received this year’s Smart Cities Leadership Award at the Golden Globe Tiger Awards 2019, during the Secretary General’s mission to Malaysia and the Philippines.
The recognition, endorsed by the World Federation of CSR Professionals, is conferred to organizations that have demonstrated excellence as leaders in the area of smart cities. WeGO was one of four recipients of the award, which is in its sixth run. Other awardees include WeGO member Jakarta’s smart city agency along with public- and private-sector leaders in Kuala Lumpur.
WeGO’s Secretary General Kyong-yul Lee received the award at the end of the 2nd Annual Smart Cities Conference, an annual event supported by several Malaysian ministries that brings together leading decision-makers and smart city experts predominantly from ASEAN. SG Lee delivered a keynote presentation with examples of citizen-empowering smart initiatives implemented in WeGO member cities Seoul and Seberang Perai at the event, whose theme was “Future Smart Cities: Citizen Centric, Intelligent and Sustainable.”
On the sidelines of the conference, WeGO also had the opportunity to meet with other smart city stakeholders, including cities such as Amsterdam, Barcelona, Kuala Lumpur, and Milan; corporations such as LG, Serviceworks, and Sterling Styles; and institutions such as the Centre for Liveable Cities and Smart Cities Council Southeast Asia. Discussions explored ways to partner in the scope of WeGO’s activities in 2019.
SG Lee will today travel onward to Makati, where he is scheduled to speak at another smart city event, the 3rd Philippine OpenGov Leadership Forum.
