WeGO enlists support of UCLG ASPAC for ASCN mayoral conference at CAFEO37

September 13, 2019

JAKARTA – On the sidelines of an ASEAN conference for engineering organizations in Jakarta, WeGO met with partner organization UCLG ASPAC to prepare for its upcoming ASEAN Smart Cities Network (ASCN) mayoral conference in Seoul.

UCLG ASPAC, the Asia-Pacific arm of the international association United Cities and Local Governments, is promoting the WeGO-ASCN Mayoral Conference from November 21 to 22 to its extensive network of governors and mayors across ASEAN. WeGO’s Program Director met with UCLG ASPAC’s Head of Communications and Member Services to jointly strategize ways to mobilize key representatives from among the 26 pilot cities of ASCN, including current and incoming ASCN Chairs Thailand and Vietnam, respectively.

As a major initiative led by WeGO in support of the newly established network, the mayoral conference seeks to present ASCN and other ASEAN local leaders with opportunities for not only targeted knowledge sharing and capacity building but also matchmaking with partners from Korea and the international community toward the successful implementation of their smart city action plans (SCAPs). WeGO’s meeting with UCLG ASPAC was arranged during this year’s Conference of the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organizations (CAFEO), where WeGO moderated panel discussions with speakers from the public and private sectors in Indonesia and abroad on strategic partnerships for the SDGs and on the future of today’s cities.

Hosted by the Indonesian Engineers Association (PII), CAFEO37 featured an exhibition along with keynote speeches and case sharing on the subjects of transportation, telecommunication, education, and renewable energy. Around 1,000 engineers, industry leaders, academics, and professionals from around 30 countries participated in the two-day forum from September 11 to 12.
