The 53rd Annual Meetings of the Board of Governors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) and 44th Meetings of the Board of Governors of the African Development Fund (ADF), the concessional arm of the Bank Group, are scheduled to take place from May 22-25, 2018 in Busan, which is located about 325 kilometres southeast of Seoul.
The Annual Meetings are the Bank’s largest annual event and serve to raise the profile of the institution on the global stage. In addition to the Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors, which constitutes the core purpose of the gathering, these Annual Meetings will bring together thousands of delegates and participants, and will feature a number of official, knowledge and side events. The Governors of the Bank are from the 54 regional member countries and 26 non-regional member countries. The Annual Meetings provide a unique forum for representatives of government, business, civil society, think-tanks, academia and the media – from Africa and beyond – to debate key issues on Africa’s development, and to discuss the Bank’s performance in delivering on its mandate.
The event, where key decisions about the Bank Group are made each year, is attended by Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors from the Bank’s 54 regional member countries (RMCs) and 26 non-regional member countries, and attracts more than 4,500 delegates representing multilateral finance institutions, development agencies, the private sector, non-governmental organizations, civil society and the media.
The 2018 Annual Meetings will be held on the theme “Accelerating Africa’s Industrialization,” and WeGO aims to be part of this event through encouraging the acceleration of this industrialization within the scope of bringing Smart Sustainable Cities for All. As such, WeGO will participate in the event during the exhibition to promote its members’ best practices as well as its recently-concluded Feasibility Study that was held in Africa (La Marsa, Tunisia).
