WeGO in Kaohsiung
Taipei, March 22, 2024 – The WeGO Secretariat, led by the Secretary General of WeGO, Ms. Jung Sook Park attended the 2024 Smart City Summit & Expo (SCSE) in Kaohsiung from 21st to 22nd March 2024.
In Kaohsiung, a Membership Welcoming Ceremony was conducted to welcome Kaohsiung as a new WeGO member with the presence of the Mayor of Kaohsiung, Mr. Chen Chi-Mai. The Secretary General of WeGO emphasized that this was meaningful to welcome and celebrate Kaohsiung’s membership to the big family of WeGO.
The Secretary General was invited as a VIP guest to attend the Opening Ceremony of the SCSE in Kaohsiung. Furthermore, during the City COP Forum themed “Improving City Resilience through Digital Smart Solutions”, the Secretary General of WeGO delivered a keynote speech by highlighting that “the City COP initiative is both important and timely. In an era where the influence of cities is rapidly expanding, their role in addressing critical issues faced by citizens has never been more crucial. From environmental concerns to public health challenges, cities are at the forefront of tackling a diverse array of pressing issues. Initiatives like City COP play a vital role in facilitating collaboration and innovation among urban centers, ultimately leading to more effective solutions and a better quality of life for all residents.”
In addition, with the presence of the Mayor of Kaohsiung, the Secretary General of WeGO delivered Opening Remarks during the City COP – Sustainable City Forum. In her remarks, the Secretary General of WeGO pointed out that “the Seoul Smart City Prize aligns with the concept of “Sustainable Cities” by promoting an innovative and inclusive smart city model. The prize encourages projects in categories like Tech-InnovaCity, emphasizing the integration of innovative policies and technologies across various sectors for economic, environmental, and societal benefit. It also includes the Human-CentriCity category, which focuses on digital inclusion to overcome the digital divide, prioritizing specific target groups within the population. Lastly, by recognizing leadership in technology and data use, the prize seeks to promote sustainable urban development in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”
Last but not least, the Secretary General of WeGO also grabbed the precious opportunity while being in Kaohsiung to conduct bilateral meetings with the Mayor of Maple Ridge, the Chairman of Suva City Council, and the Mayor of Cebu City. The Second Seoul Smart City Prize and Executive Committee Meeting were promoted during the bilateral meetings.
