TAIPEI & KAOHSIUNG – The World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization attended the 2023 Smart City Summit & Expo (SCSE) to promote the Seoul Smart City Prize, the 6th WeGO General Assembly, and other initiatives to the international community. In addition, the Secretary General of WeGO was invited by the International Climate Development Institute (ICDI) as a partner to deliver the opening remarks at the 2023 SCSE Kaohsiung Smart & Sustainable City Forum and ICLEI Member Assembly.

Since its establishment in 2014, the SCSE is not only a platform to present smart city solutions, but is also the biggest exhibition on IoT application in Asia. Being the largest hybrid smart city trade show in Asia that features the most comprehensive IoT solutions, SCSE has also been offering cross-industry collaboration and a networking platform for governments and businesses.  Featuring “Digital Transformation & Green Transition”, the 2023 SCSE is expected to have attracted over 150,000 visitors and over 600 exhibitors from all over the globe.

WeGO’s Secretary General joined the Opening Ceremony of the 2023 SCSE in Taipei on March 28, where hundreds of local government delegates, including the Mayor of the city and Deputy Mayor of Kaohsiung (the two hosting cities), gathered to kick-off the event that marks the 10th Anniversary of the SCSE.

Furthermore, the Secretary General of WeGO was also invited to take part in the Net Zero City Leaders Summit. A high-level platform for mayors and city leaders around the world to exchange opinions on smart city governance, innovative strategies, and visions for upcoming development. Having reached the post-pandemic era, the in-person event gathered over 160 local governments from all over the world.

WeGO Secretary-General also officiated the inauguration of the Seoul Pavilion together with the Seoul Digital Foundation which is also a WeGO Member. This space has served to share the Seoul Smart City Prize with all the foreign delegations visiting the pavilion.

On March 30, WeGO Secretary General joined the Smart Sustainable City Forum in Kaohsiung to deliver the opening remarks in the presence of over 50 cities from 16 different countries.

The event has been a great success and allowed WeGO to not only promote the Seoul Smart City Prize but also to meet with foreign delegations headed by mayors and deputy mayors from local governments to learn from their achievements and needs, as well as discuss how to develop smart cities together.
