Official Greetings from WeGO’s New Secretary General, Jung Sook Park

Seoul, October 13, 2021

Dear WeGO Members and Partners,

Greetings from the WeGO Secretariat in Seoul. My name is Jung Sook Park and I am the new Secretary General for WeGO. I was appointed on September 24, 2021 by WeGO’s President City, Seoul Metropolitan Government, and WeGO’s President, Mayor Se-hoon Oh of Seoul, in accordance with WeGO’s Statutes.

Prior to joining WeGO, I have dedicated my career to contributing to society by creating public goods, connecting Korea with the international community, and helping underprivileged citizens both domestically and globally. I worked in the fields of international cooperation and cultural diplomacy as the Korean Representative of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunizations (GAVI) and as a professor at a number of universities. Before then, I was an anchor for several morning news programs on Korean radio and television, and served as an advisor, ambassador and board member of organizations such as the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), Export-Import Bank of Korea (EDCF) and the Korea Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (KOFICE).

Now, I am honored to join WeGO as the new Secretary General to lead the organization in its new chapter. Since its establishment, WeGO has taken a leadership role in facilitating the transformation of cities to smart sustainable cities worldwide, with currently over 200 members around the world. The global pandemic and climate change have shown us the importance of smart technology solutions and the 4th Industrial Revolution’s transformation of local governments to overcome the challenges cities face today. Acknowledging such needs, WeGO will strengthen its support for cities to adapt to today’s evolving landscape of smart cities and open new doors for global collaboration.

I wish to work closely with the Executive Committee Members, Vice President Cities, President City, and all of our members to strengthen WeGO as an inclusive global platform, and become a place for cities, companies, and institutions to gather, share knowledge and ideas, and collaborate.

With the ongoing vaccination campaigns advancing around the world, I look forward to meeting you all in person. Until then, please join me virtually at the upcoming 5th WeGO General Assembly on October 18, 2021.
