WeGO resumes meetings with diplomatic missions in Q1

SEOUL – WeGO resumed its regular courtesy visits to embassies after the start of the new year to establish and strengthen relations with the diplomatic community here and promote its upcoming activities.
During this first quarter, WeGO has met embassy officials from five countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America, four of which host local government members of WeGO.
In a meeting with the ambassador of the United Arab Emirates, WeGO was encouraged to set up a meeting with city officials of Abu Dhabi at the 10th World Urban Forum (WUF10) and received renewed a commitment that the embassy will work with WeGO.
The first counselor of the Iranian Embassy expressed interest in WeGO’s Project Implementer and training programs for city officials, as well as in further development of the relationship between WeGO and leading Iranian cities.
Officials from the Kenyan Embassy, whose capital city Nairobi is a founding member of WeGO, expressed particular interest in the WeGO Activator, and discussed other potential areas of cooperation.
Secretary General Kyong-yul Lee also met with the ambassadors of Mexico and Guatemala, ahead of WeGO’s scheduled missions to the Smart City Expo LATAM Congress and Global Social Economy Forum in Mexico. The Mexican ambassador agreed to make joint efforts in promoting WeGO across the region, in conjuction with WeGO’s Regional Office in Mexico City. Similarly, the Guatemalan ambassador pledged to help WeGO establish contact with both the capital and other Guatemalan cities, to gain its first member in the country.
Additional meetings will be set up throughout the year with the aim of amassing continuous support for WeGO activities in regions around the world.
