Hands-on experience offered in first Smart City Driver webinar
August 27, 2020
SEOUL – WeGO held the first installment of its webinar series aiming to provide interested local governments, in-kind and financial partner organizations with hands-on experience on the Smart City Driver, its new framework that helps cities plan, finance and deploy their smart city projects through a range of customized solution packages and matchmaking with strategic partners.
This first webinar served as a demonstration of how local governments can submit their projects through the WeGO Activator, the online platform that helps streamline the application process for WeGO’s key programs, including the Solution Finder and the Project Implementer.
After a live run-through of the Activator by WeGO’s Program Director, the Mayor of Cauayan City and the Head of Information Technology of Kampala Capital City Authority each presented about their most recent projects.
Cauayan City showcased its plan to develop a data dashboard, integrated to a CCTV system, with the goal of minimizing the impact of tropical storms on the city and expanding its national resilience network for improved disaster management and increased citizen wellbeing. This ‘Digital Twin Data Dashboard’ project proposal was selected as the beneficiary city of the WeGO Project Implementer earlier this year, before the program was postponed due to COVID-19.
Kampala introduced its smart parking project, developed through WeGO’s feasibility study program in 2019. Designed to relieve traffic congestion and improve the safety in the city, the system is operated with the help of intelligent CCTV cameras that reflect real-time information on available car parking spaces using variables such as time period, price, and geographic location, and will be complemented with a mobile app for drivers and service providers.
These two projects are to serve as examples throughout this webinar series, and will be used when discussing the two other components of the Smart City Driver in the upcoming webinar, scheduled to take place as part of WeGO’s EXCOM Meeting in November.
