The Local Government of Quezon City, Philippines hosted a successful WeGO Executive Committee Meeting from October 17-19, 2018. The city is the largest in Metropolitan Manila and represents the biggest market for any business or industry for being the most populous in the country.
The meeting took place alongside the Philippine Smart City Summit and Expo 2018 which ran under the theme of “Advocating for Smart Sustainable Cities through Innovation and Collaboration” and brought together various urban players and stakeholders from the national and local governments, private sector, academic institutions, and international organizations. High-level representatives from Seberang Perai (Malaysia), Sao Paulo (Brazil), Mexico City (Mexico), and Jakarta (Indonesia) also had the opportunity to share their best smart city practices at a plenary session at the Philippine Smart City Summit, while other WeGO members participated actively in the sessions.
In addition to the EXCOM Meeting, WeGO also organized a breakout session on “Multi-stakeholder Partnerships for Smart Sustainable City Implementation” where speakers from the Public-Private Partnership Center of the Philippines, Asian Development Bank (ADB), and WeGO shared ways on how local governments can work with other urban actors to help fund and execute smart city projects. Quezon City also organized a technical and cultural tour.
