On November 14, 2023, the WeGO Sustainable Smart City Champions held its fifth in-person workshop series Young Urban Leadership: Perspectives in Dialogue in the Catholic University of Milan. The workshop garnered substantial attendance, with 47 students participating in a thoughtful discussion with esteemed professors. The focal point of the event was the topic of “Redefining Urban Communication: Conflict, Culture, and Digital Media in Smart and Sustainable Cities.”

The WeGO Sustainable Smart City Champions program continues its momentum this November 3 by successfully holding its workshop in Athens, at the University of Patras. Seen as a symbolic place of arts and human progress, Athens perfectly fits the theme of WeGO Champion’s fourth offline workshop: Urban Retrofitting.

After its successful first run last year, WeGO is expanding the program to a hybrid: the program will be conducted online and in-person. To guide young leaders on centering smart city development back to its citizens, WeGO has published an online course titled “Accelerating, Benchmarking, and Communicating Smart and Sustainable Cities’ Transitions on the online learning website.

The C40 Cities is a global network of nearly 100 mayors of the world’s leading cities that are working towards climate-related issues. Interestingly, Mayor Oh Se-hoon (the Mayor of Seoul) is not only the President City of WeGO, but also serves as the Vice Chair City of C0 Cities.

The 7th Regional Symposium on Effective Global Governance and Digital Transformation provided an excellent opportunity for networking, knowledge sharing, and collaborative problem-solving. Participants were able to gain valuable insights into the critical role of digital technologies in advancing the 2030 Agenda, fostering global cooperation, and shaping the future of governance.

The WeGO Secretariat facilitated the visit by the government officials from Hue City (Vietnam) and promoted WeGO activities to the delegation. Hue City expressed interest in WeGO Membership and interest in participating in the Seoul Smart City Prize.

After the success from last year’s ‘WeGO Champions’, the World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization (WeGO) is continuing the program with a wider scope. side from online lectures, this year’s program will also be hosted in-person in six other cities–Baku (Azerbaijan), Munich (Germany), Geneva (Switzerland), Athens (Greece), Milan (Italy), and Los Angeles (USA).

As the main governance meeting of WeGO, at the General Assembly WeGO’s accomplishments are reviewed and decisions are made on key agenda items such as the election of new President City, Vice President Cities, Executive Committee Members, approval of statute changes, and selection of the next General Assembly host city.
