Last week Korea welcomed foreign delegations visiting Seoul to attend the World Smart City Expo 2022. WeGO had the opportunity to receive some of these foreign representatives, including delegations from Iran, the Taipei Computer Association and Wellington City Council. Very fruitful meetings to exchange ideas on smart city development and discuss cooperation areas.

WeGO’s Secretary General took part in the opening ceremony of the Seoul Hiking Tourism Center, an initiative by the Seoul Tourism Organization (STO) aimed to make visiting Bukhansan a more convenient and enjoyable experience for visitors. The event, organized by STO with the support from WeGO, attracted numerous visitors and was attended by the Mayor of Seoul, Oh Se-hoon, Ambassadors from foreign countries in Korea, and other relevant stakeholders in the tourism sector.

This webinar series provides an open floor for members and partners to promote their projects and solutions, thus creating opportunities for collaboration on smart city projects and showcasing good examples of sustainable urban innovation.

The Secretary General of WeGO, Jung Sook Park, was invited to deliver a presentation on “Smart City Development Cooperation with External Partners” during the ASCN Annual Meeting 2022. The Secretary General of WeGO not only highlighted the importance of the WeGO-ASCN Partnership in fostering smart sustainable development in the region, but also emphasized the importance of the people element in smart cities.

During the World Cities Summit, held from July 31 to August 3, 2022, in Singapore, leaders from local governments convened to share ideas on smart and sustainable urban development. Taking the opportunity forward, the Secretary General of WeGO, Ms. Jung Sook Park, met the Mayors of leading smart cities around the world and exchanged insights on the fast-evolving landscape of smart city development.

The World Cities Summit (WCS) 2022 officially kicked off with an opening remark delivered by Desmond Lee, Minister of National Development and Minister-in-Charge of Social Services Integration in Singapore. The theme for this year’s WCS is “Liveable and Sustainable Cities: Emerging Stronger”. It represents the ambition to not only survive shocks like the COVID-19 pandemic but also to build back even stronger and more resilient than before.

While attending the World Cities Summit 2022, the WeGO Secretariat had its first bilateral meeting with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat). Both the Secretary General of WeGO, Jung Sook Park, and the Executive Director of UN-Habitat, Maimunah Mohd Sharif, greeted each other in Singapore.

Starting the first day in Singapore, guided by the smart sustainable building architect F&P, WeGO visited the one of the most prominent smart sustainable buildings in Singapore, South Beach. Mayor Oh Se Hoon, the President of WeGO and the Mayor of Seoul Metropolitan Government joined WeGO’s visit to the smart sustainable buildings in Singapore and showed special interest in the usage of various textures and innovative architectural technologies utilized for sustainable buildings.
