WeGO’s Secretary General Jung Sook Park was invited to present as a panelist during the World Knowledge Forum 2022 in Busan on “Supercompensation: The Urban Transformation for a Better Future”, organized by Maeil Business Newspaper. Convened by Heong-joon Park, the Mayor of Busan Metropolitan City, Hwang-sik Kim, the 41st Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea, and Yang-weon Seo, the CEO of Maeil Business Newspaper, the Forum marked a milestone for discussing fundamental conditions for building a clean, safe and smart city.

WeGO co-organized the 2022 Seoul Smart City Leaders Forum, alongside the Seoul Metropolitan Government at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP). As cities continue to rapidly enter into the digital era, this shines light on the growing digital divide and the need to ensure that no one is left behind. Against this background, the theme of Seoul Smart City leader Forum 2022 was “Beyond Digital Divide, Meta Seoul” to drive knowledge sharing among global international cities and IT companies for inclusive growth.

The Secretary General of WeGO, Ms. Jung Sook Park and the President of Dong-ah Institute of Media and Arts Mr. Choi, Yong Hyuk, signed an MOU. Under this agreement, WeGO and Dong-ah Institute are set to collaborate in various ways to provide students with the opportunity to acquire knowledge on smart cities and the 4th industrial revolution.

In continuation of the successfully implemented WeGO Smart City Champions, conducted from March to June this year, WeGO aims to expand its mission of promoting people-centered smart cities and empowering youth as future leaders of tomorrow to WeGO members. Essentially, the Smart City Champions is a youth program aiming to build the capacity of young people around the world in the fields of urban development, sustainability, and smart cities. In this respect, WeGO has partnered with Korea University’s Graduate School of Energy and Environment in the second half of the year to launch the course on “Smart City and Energy Transition – Energy Expert Seminar”, starting from September.
