Today WeGO held its first event related to the Africa Smart Cities Network (AFSCN) to explore the challenges and opportunities for digital transformation in light of the continent’s rapidly growing urban population. The AFSCN Seminar was viewed by over 100 participants from 40 countries and sought to secure support for a network focusing on charting a roadmap for the sustainable development of cities, towns, and villages in Africa.

Today, WeGO held the first edition of the ‘Solutions Meet Cities: Online Matchmaking Webinar’, aimed at providing an open floor to members for them to promote their projects and solutions, thus creating opportunities for matchmaking and collaboration within WeGO’s network.

WeGO held the Pre-workshop of the Latin America Smart Cities Network, WeGO’s new initiative for the Latin American region. This open-ended regional network of local governments in LATAM will not only serve as a platform for knowledge-exchange, but also to foster cooperation on smart city development in the region.

WeGO held its first webinar focused on China-Korea smart city collaboration, in parallel to its existing initiatives in the Northeast Asia region. Representatives from key Chinese and Korean cities and institutions discussed the needs and capacities required to successfully push digitalization forward in both countries.

The WeGO e-Government Thematic Group was launched at the thematic group’s first webinar today. The launch of this knowledge-sharing platform, which will support members on this theme through activities such as seminars, workshops, training programs, and feasibility studies focused on e-government, was viewed by over 100 participants.

WeGO’s president city Seoul has been selected as the new host of the 5th WeGO General Assembly, following the postponing of the event due to the COVID-19 pandemic last year.

Today, WeGO took part in Moscow’s International Smart Cities Forum. Held online on May 25-26 in English and Russian, the event had between 4,000 and 9,000 live remote participants depending on the sessions.
